Memoirs by Echidna records a life story in your own voice, in our Haymarket studio or in your own home, and turns it into something your family can keep and replay for generations.
It starts with a conversation with an experienced interviewer, and a guiding hand through the best years, and maybe some of the challenging ones too. We handle the recording, editing and delivery.

A planning chat. We talk through the stories you want to tell and the people you want to tell them for.
The recording session. Record in our Haymarket studio, or we come to you. People open up more in familiar surroundings, and we guide the conversation.
The edit. We shape your recording and, in the video packages, weave in your photos.

Tell us who the memoir is for and we’ll recommend the right package.
Every memoir runs up to 1 hour 30 minutes and includes one round of revisions. Extra revision rounds and re-recording are quoted separately.
Extra photos in the Audio and Video Memoir are $10 each over 50. Prices in AUD.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a memoir cost?
Packages start at $650 for an audio memoir in our studio, or $750 with a site visit in and around Sydney. The Audio and Video Memoir is $1,490 and the Cinematic Memoir is $2,990. Photo digitisation is included for up to 50 photos, then $10 per extra photo.
What happens to my photos?
We digitise your printed photos with a Sony A7 IV full-frame camera for sharp, colour-accurate, high-resolution copies, and include them in your film. Bring up to 50 in the video packages. If you have more, extra photos are $10 each.
Can I make changes to my memoir?
Yes. Every package includes one round of revisions to your edited memoir, so please gather feedback from the family and send it as a single list. Further revision rounds, or adding new material that needs re-recording, are quoted separately.
What if I’m nervous on camera or microphone?
Most people are. We try and keep it a relaxed conversation, and we can pause or re-record any answer.
Where does the recording take place?
At our studio in Haymarket, in the Sydney CBD, or we come to you. We recommend coming to you, as people are generally more comfortable in their own space than a studio. We find people open up more in their own environment. Site visits in and around Sydney are included in the Audio and Video and Cinematic Memoirs, and cost $100 extra for the remote Audio Memoir.
How long does it take to receive my memoir?
We confirm the timeline when you book, based on the package you choose. In general 2 – 4 weeks. If you would like your memoir sooner, a ‘rush’ fee applies to memoirs with a week or lower turn around.
Can I buy a memoir as a gift?
Yes. Many memoirs are gifts from children to parents or grandparents. Get in touch and we’ll help you plan it.
